Yorwaste Limited are sponsoring an 'Upcycling Fashion Competition and Fashion Show'!
The Competition
Yorwaste is proud to be hosting the closing show of York Fashion Week on Monday 6 May 2024, and we need your innovative designs for the runway.
We’re looking for 40 fashion looks from designers based in York and North Yorkshire. And the brief is upcycling! We want you to explore ways of reworking PPE and discarded clothing into innovative and stylish new designs that are good enough to wow the YFW crowds.
Our panel of judges will select 40 looks to be exhibited on the final night of York Fashion Week, with 25 of these being worn by models on the runway. And you’ll have four weeks to bring the design to life.

How to Enter
To be in with a chance of seeing your work on display at this dazzling event, we ask that you submit the following information to competition@yorkfashionweek.com with Yorwaste Entry in the subject box by Wednesday 20 March 2024.
- a sketch of your design
- up to 200 words describing your concept including what materials you plan on using
- we need to know if your piece is a wearable piece of fashion, or if it might be better suited to a mannequin display
- if you require some support in sourcing the fabric for your piece, please just let us know.
The Prize
Our panel of judges will choose 40 looks in total to be exhibited in our standout show at York Fashion Week, on Monday 6 May 2024. 25 looks will be worn by models for a runway show, and 15 will be on display to be enjoyed by our guests.
Guidelines
- competition is open to students who are aged between 14-17 at the time of the runway show
- competition is open to schools and education bodies that fall within York and North Yorkshire
- we ask that designs are designed to one of the following sizes:
- Women’s Dress Size 8-12. Chest 33”-36”, Waist 25-28”, Hips 35”-39”, Height 5’5’’-5’9’’
- Men’s Size Medium. Chest 38”-40”, Waist 34”-36”, Height 5’8”-6’0”.
The winning pieces will only use reworked and recycled clothing, with a big focus on PPE. We don’t want you to purchase new fabric or materials to deliver the final look.
