Cold weather arrangements

At this time of year our thoughts turn to the possibility of changes in weather conditions, which affect travel to and from College. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to remind all parents of our arrangements in the event of bad weather.

The safety of students is the most important factor that we will take into account in deciding our action.

The police/bus companies will always be consulted prior to any decision being made and their advice taken before buses are requested to leave early.

Students travelling on the bus from Castleton and Danby will be permitted to travel by train if the roads are dangerous in the valley. They must simply turn up at the station and train stewards will have a travel warrant.

Parents/Carers will be consulted before students are allowed to leave College if a decision is taken to close early. Students will be expected to co-operate with staff and wait until this call is made and it is always helpful if students do have a mobile phone available at such times. College policy must be followed at all times and phones must be kept in lockers until specifically needed.

It is important for parents to realise that at such times it is essential for us have phone lines open and it is very difficult to secure the safety of the students if parents block phone lines with incoming calls.

If a decision is made to close the College at the beginning of the day it will be announced on local radio and be in the best interests of all staff and student safety.

Thank you for your support and help.
